Presentation skills and techniques for grads: Delivery and audience engagement | GPSC282

Build greater confidence in delivering presentations that are clear, professional, and engaging. This interactive workshop focuses on the delivery stage of the presentation process, including the effective use of visual aids, verbal and non-verbal communication, interaction with the audience, and techniques for maintaining interest.

This session complements the August 4 workshop, but it is designed to stand alone. Participants do not need to attend the other session.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

- Apply verbal and non-verbal techniques that support clear and confident delivery.

- Use visual aids effectively to reinforce rather than distract from a presentation’s message.

- Apply practical strategies to engage an audience and create interaction.

- Maintain audience interest through effective pacing, emphasis, and signposting.

- Identify techniques for managing presentation nerves and responding professionally to questions.

Vassilia Kazamia, PhD, is a Senior Teaching Fellow at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an Academic Tutor at the Hellenic Open University. She holds an MA in Linguistics and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Leeds and has extensive international experience teaching presentation, communication, and professional skills in higher education. Vassilia is joining Concordia as a visiting professor through Concordia International, supported by a teaching mobility award that enables her to come to Canada and share her expertise with the Concordia community. Her work focuses on English for Specific and Professional Purposes, curriculum development, and helping students and professionals communicate effectively across academic, professional, and intercultural contexts.
