Presentation skills and techniques for graduate students: planning and structure | GPSC281

Delivering an effective oral presentation is a skill that can be learned and developed. This interactive workshop introduces essential techniques for planning and structuring a clear, organized, and impactful presentation. Participants will explore how to select and organize content, identify their key message, and adapt a presentation to its purpose and audience.

This session complements the August 6 workshop, but it is designed to stand alone. Participants do not need to attend the other session.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

- Identify the key stages involved in planning and preparing an effective presentation.

- Select and organize content around a clear purpose and central message.

- Structure a presentation so that ideas are easy for an audience to follow.

- Adapt presentation content to the needs, expectations, and level of knowledge of an audience.

- Apply practical strategies to make the preparation process more focused and manageable.

Vassilia Kazamia, PhD, is a Senior Teaching Fellow at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an Academic Tutor at the Hellenic Open University. She holds an MA in Linguistics and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Leeds and has extensive international experience teaching presentation, communication, and professional skills in higher education. Vassilia is joining Concordia as a visiting professor through Concordia International, supported by a teaching mobility award that enables her to come to Canada and share her expertise with the Concordia community. Her work focuses on English for Specific and Professional Purposes, curriculum development, and helping students and professionals communicate effectively across academic, professional, and intercultural contexts.
