Professional and Effective Email Writing | GPSC415

Description

Emails have become one of the main modes of communication, with many of us sending and receiving dozens of emails every day. Having good email writing skills can help ensure your message is communicated effectively to allow your audience to take action as needed and make better use of your time. Good email etiquette also demonstrates your professionalism.

This workshop will cover best practices in email writing and organization, and is suited for international students or those needing a refresher or tips. Students will have the opportunity to share their own experiences and participate in email writing activities.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common components of an email and the appropriate context in which to use them;
  • Define best practices of email writing;
  • Confidently identify examples of well written emails;
  • Discuss time management issues related to email writing and how to overcome them.

Leaders Information

Althea Thompson (she/her) is a PhD candidate in the Department of History; an Academic Workshop Facilitator for GradProSkills; and the Team Lead for Concordia’s Writing Centre. Her doctoral research focuses on the ways popular audiences set out to learn history in non-“traditional” ways, using the Romanovs, social media, and museums as a case study as well as investigating what role content creators and museum staff see themselves having in this process.

Participant Feedback

I would recommend this workshop because it is a knowledge reset. Many things that we all use every day in our emails and are common knowledge, were elaborated further on which I found very useful.
