This 90-minute webinar will start with a presentation co-facilitated by two Indigenous Advisors at Concordia on creating safe learning spaces for Indigenous students in the classroom The second part of the webinar will provide the opportunity for participant sharing and discussion. The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with an understanding of what cultural safety means for Indigenous students in the classroom and explore why it is important for you to learn in your capacity as graduate students who may be peers and/or Teaching Assistants in the classroom.


Learning Objectives

After completing this Webinar, participants will:  
 

  • Recognize the reality of Indigenous students’ experiences in the classroom 
  
  • Determine appropriate approaches to creating safe learning spaces  
 
  • Identify Indigenous peoples’ decolonial approaches  
 
  • Describe resources available to guide you in building cultural safety for Indigenous students  

Leaders Information

This online seminar is co-led by Carole Brazeau who is Anishinabe/Algonquin from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation. She is the Advisor, Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy at the Centre for Teaching and Learning and Allan Vicaire who is Mi’kmaq from Listuguj. He is the Senior Advisor of Indigenous Directions.
